well, not self, actually. a friend. she cuts herself. and i have no idea how to help her.
i've tried asking her to stop, but she says it's her way if coping. and she asked me why she should stop. and i didnt know how to answer.
because she's hurting herself? but it's only superficial and shallow, and they heal. and if it helps her to cope, well, why not? it's not as if she's drinking or smoking. she'll still live to a ripe old age, albeit with a few scars. i believe she will stop, in time. whoever heard of a thirty year-old cutting? and if it keeps her from doing something drastic like suicide......
she's only barely hurting herself, she said, no one else.i see her reasoning and i dont know how to refute it. and i wonder, is cutting really bad?
a little voice in me tells me that yes, it is. but now i dont know why it is. and everyday i can't come up with an answer, my dear friend cuts herself again, carving words onto her skin.
help her. help me help her.

the only advice i can give is to just be with her and to let her know that you\'ll be there for her.
Probing isn\'t always the best idea, though there must be underlying reasons behind her self-harming. For more information i suggest that you look through the internet for support groups.
and, Self harming won\'t go away, its hard to stop. I\'ve been at it for 6 years.

i must know how she feels when she cuts cuz a couple years back, i cut myself when i was really angry. it is something you cant explain why people do it. i stopped cutting cuz i realised that it was a stupid way of coping with thing. try getting her involved in activities?? get her mind off stuff??
